NEW ORLEANS, La. – Talladega and Xavier (La.) took care of business on their home floors Wednesday night while Rust and Edward Waters each moved onto the Gulf Coast Athletid Conference Semifinals courtesy of a bye and forfeiture, respectively, to earn a berth to Jacksonville.
The #1 seed Rust Lady Bearcats (13-1, 5-1 GCAC) secured a first round bye thanks to a lucky roll of the dice, winning the three-way GCAC Co-Champion tiebreaker against Talladega and Edward Waters.
The #2 seed Talladega doubled up Dillard inside the Billy Hawkins Student Center by a score of 100-50 as five different Lady Tornadoes registered 10 points or more.
The #3 seed and host Edward Waters Lady Tigers never had to leave Duval County as its contest with Tougaloo was considered a forfeit due to COVID-19 protocols.
Finally, the #4 seed Xavier (La.) got 20 points out of Da'Jha Virgil and 15 from Victory Udechi en route to a 23-point victory over Philander Smith, 76-53.
The Semifinal matchups will be #4 Xavier (La.) versus #1 Rust at noon and tournament host #3 Edward Waters will be the visiting team in its own gymnasium when it battles #2 Talladega at 5 p.m. eastern time.
