BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced its schedule of SWAC Digital Network programming, with potentially up to 17 games (one “if” necessary game), and six SWAC championships including the soccer, softball and both the men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field championship events to be broadcast through the league’s flagship content provider. The announcement was made Monday by Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland.swac digital network18

“All 10 member institutions have increased their streaming capabilities,” said commissioner McClelland. “In an effort not to overlap what the institutions have already made a commitment to broadcast, the conference office has made a shift toward showcasing our championship events. In addition to what the schools are already doing, this will provide maximum coverage to showcase our exciting brand of intercollegiate
athletics.”

SDN’s coverage kicks off the first weekend of November with live streaming action of both SWAC women’s soccer semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 3 from the campus of Prairie View A&M University, who will be hosting for a third consecutive season with their all-grass facility that opened in October of 2016.

The first championship broadcast follows the next day on Sunday, Nov. 4 with the SWAC Women’s Soccer Championship game. Alabama State has won the prior two SWAC championships as it defeated runner Grambling State in dramatic fashion last season 3-2 in penalty kicks to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Howard won the previous two championships, winning in 2014 and 2015.

Two weekends later, the SWAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament will be hosted by Mississippi Valley State University. SDN will live stream the action from both semifinal matches in Itta Bena, Miss. Alabama State looks to defend its crown after it topped Texas Southern in last year’s title match 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-
18). The Lady Hornets have reached the finals in five consecutive seasons and have won four of the previous five championships. Jackson State won the title in 2015. ESPNU will carry the SWAC Volleyball Championship at 9 p.m. on tape delay later that night.

During the winter season, SDN will head to Birmingham, Ala. to showcase the 2019 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships final day at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday, February 15. Last season, Alabama State successfully defended the SWAC men’s indoor track and field championship, becoming the first repeat winner since Texas Southern (2015-16) to defend the title after racking up 148 points. On the women’s circuit, ASU won its 10th-straight SWAC Indoor Championship in convincing fashion, racking up 166.5 points en route to victory.

Postseason women’s and men’s basketball will be aired this coming season as well with SDN covering both SWAC tournament semifinals on Friday, March 15 from the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Ala. The women’s championship will be aired on ESPN3 at 1:30 p.m. while the men’s title game is set to be broadcast on ESPNU at 5 p.m.

May will be a busy sports month on SDN as coverage starts the first weekend in Prairie View A&M University on Sunday, May 5, for the 2019 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The host Panthers will look to defend their crown on the men’s side while Alabama State will seek their 10th straight SWAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field championship after winning with a tally of 218 points last year to clinch the crown.

The SWAC Digital Network has also expanded its coverage of the Softball Tournament as it will air the semifinals on Friday, May 10 as well as the championship game on Saturday, May 11 from the campus of Alabama State University at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. Prairie View A&M claimed the title last year with a 4-3 win against Alabama State.

The academic season concludes with added coverage of the SWAC Baseball Tournament semifinals from Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, La. on Friday, May 17 and a potential “if” necessary contest slated for Saturday, May 18. Texas Southern defeated Grambling State 18-3 to claim back-to-back SWAC
championships.
